Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) strives to achieve Zero Harm.

WICET is committed to owning and operating a modern coal export facility in a safe, environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner.

Our aim is to have zero incidents that harm people, or put the community within which WICET operates at risk.

Our health and safety principles include:

  • Ensuring the safety of all WICET personnel and visitors;
  • Managing risk by implementing programs to identify, assess, monitor and control hazards;
  • Compliance with all applicable legislative and approval requirements.

To achieve our health and safety goals and objectives, WICET will:

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedure for the implementation of the HSE Policy;
  • Develop and maintain agreed HSE targets for achieving safe and environmentally sustainable outcomes, includuing regular reporting and reviews of health and safety performance;
  • Pursue performance improvement including annual reviews of HSE, training, policies and procedures;
  • Consult with workers and other persons who have a HSE duty.

WICET is a member of the Gladstone Mutual Aid Group, consisting of representatives from a number of heavy industrial sites in Gladstone. The group meets on a quarterly basis, focusing on infrastructure protection and emergency preparedness / response. 

WICET also participates in Maritime Safety Queensland’s Safety Forum, a monthly meeting chaired by the Regional Harbour Master, and attended by proponents of the Gladstone Harbour.
